Amira Halvorsen
French Teacher
A linguist and an educator who has a thorough passion for teaching French in action and engaging our dynamic and bright students.
She has been teaching and developing foreign language and intercultural communication programs for over twenty years, including hands-on teaching experience in French, Spanish, Italian and ESL at university level in France, Belgium, and the University of Houston where she was a member of the teaching team in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages (MCL) where I was involved in the creation of the quarterly syllabi, the assessment of students’ performance and in developing a concept-content based program, where she helped to facilitate deeper understanding of content knowledge, establish new standards and bring relevance to student learning, thus actively creating an engaging learning environment and raising intercultural and linguistic awareness of the world around them. As a result of her passionate devotion and holistic involvement with the students, she received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Houston Provost.
In 2011 she founded Tip Top Linguas & The Language Together Project (TTL), a center specialized in foreign languages for children and adults and cross-cultural workshops in Brussels and Antwerp. It caught the attention of the Ariane de Rothschild Foundation and therefore, she was awarded a fellowship to join the program on Language, Communication and Conflict Resolution at King’s College, Cambridge.
