New Beginnings, Warm Welcomes, and a Busy September at BISB
Welcome back to everyone after what has been a punishingly hot summer in Belgium, I hope some of you managed to find somewhere cool to spend some of the time. It has been joyous to see how happy the children are to be back in school, greeting each other and welcoming new friends. We hope our new families are settled and if you are new to Brussels we are happy to help with anything we can.
If you have moved house or changed your phone number at any time in the last year, please will you let us know so that we can make sure our contact details are up to date. If you are a new school family, please make sure that you have returned the BISB Pupil Information Form and Parental Permission Form that you have received. It is very important that all parents complete these forms. For example, the Pupil Information Form provides us with your phone numbers in case we need to contact you in an emergency as well as any necessary medical information about your child. If your child has an allergy or other medical condition, then it is critical that you inform the school immediately via this form, if you have not done so already. On this form we have asked for an emergency contact and, just to be clear, this is for you to nominate a third person to contact in the unlikely event that we cannot contact either parent, as we will naturally try to contact both parents first. The Parental Permission Form must also be returned quickly in case your child’s class is scheduled to leave the school to go on an educational trip or visit in the next few weeks.
A reminder that teachers do not check their emails during the school day as they are busy with the children so if you have an urgent message to pass on, please ring the school office on 02 736 8981If you would like to contact your child’s teacher, please use the email address below. These emails are replacing the individual staff emails to simplify communication and will be used going forward. These will be checked by the relevant class teachers on a regular basis but please do not expect an immediate reply.
Next week on Thursday September 3rd we will be holding our Curriculum Evening from 6 to 7 pm. This is an evening for parents to come and hear about what the children will be doing this year. The teachers will outline the curriculum and explain how you as parents can support your children’s learning.
There are a few children wearing incorrect clothing to school. You can purchase uniform from the school office. To do so please send an email requesting what you need and we will prepare it. All children above Nursery age should be wearing grey trousers, skirt or pinafore with a white school polo shirt and a green school sweatshirt. On PE and swimming days the children come to school in green school jogging pants with school t-shirt and school sweatshirt. Nursery children wear green school jogging pants with a white school polo shirt and green school jumper. All children must have a BISB school bag.
After school clubs will start in the week beginning September 15th and run for 10 weeks. Next week we will send out the list for you to sign your child up for a club if you wish. We do have Garderie every day after school. If you need your child to be in the Garderie please let us know during the day. The cost for Garderie is 4 euros for half an hour from 3.30pm.
