Pumpkin week
We have been very lucky this week to enjoy some more lovely weather and we have been able to take the children outside and take advantage of it. As the weather gets cooler the children will start bringing coats, hats and gloves to school. Please make sure that all your children’s clothing is named. We can return lost items to the correct owner if there is a name in it, but otherwise it is likely to be lost and you may not get it back.

Next week is Pumpkin week in school and the children are very excited about the idea of bringing a pumpkin to school for the display, so please help them find one at a market, garden centre or a supermarket. We want to celebrate the natural beauty and colours of the various pumpkins in Belgium so please do not carve them. We will be looking for the biggest, smallest, prettiest, most strange, funniest, and I challenge you all to find one smaller than mine! There is a wonderful Pumpkin Festival called Pumpkinmania at Grand-Bigard Castle until November 1st. https://share.google/qfq0eVNSJGi04htiz You might like to visit this as a family trip out.
Don’t forget that Thursday October 15th is a dressing up day so the children can come to school dressed in anything with an Autumn theme. We are celebrating Autumn, not Halloween. If you don’t have a costume, they can come dressed in Autumn colours.
We will be having an Open Day tomorrow, on Saturday October 10th for families looking for a school, to come and visit BISB. We have several families signed up to visit but please encourage anyone you know who may be seeking a school place to come and have a look around.
This coming Sunday is the Walk in the Woods from 2 pm to approximately 4 pm. The meeting place for the start of the walk is on the steps of the Africa Palace at the top of Avenue de Tervuren. This is opposite the final stop on the 44 tram route. You come out of the tram stop, cross the road at the crossing and straight ahead is the Africa Palace. I will be monitoring the weather and if it looks to be too wet and rainy I will message everyone on Classlist at 11:30. If we need to postpone, we will make a new date after the holiday.
The swimming coach at Nato has asked me to share with you information about swimming lessons he gives away from NATO. Please find below his details.

During the next school holiday, the Tech and Play team will be running a holiday camp at BISB during the second week from 26th October to 30th October. Here is the link to the registration page on their website https://www.mytechnplay.com/holiday-camps-in-brussels
After the break at the Friday coffee gathering I am planning to have a discussion session once a month on a topic that is relevant to our children and I will invite some members of staff to join in these discussions.
Several families have already signed up for the family day trip to the Aachen Christmas market on Saturday November 28th. We plan to leave from Square Plasky at 9am and aim to return to Square Plasky at 6.30pm which will give everyone plenty of time to wander around the market and Aachen. It will cost 35 euros per seat, which includes the return travel, the parking and a tip for the driver. The coach has 50 seats so it will be “first come first served”, so if you would like to join the trip please email me at headteacher@bisb.org saying how many people will be in your group. In order for the trip to go ahead we need to fill the bus, so if you have friends and colleagues who are not part of BISB you are welcome to bring them along.
The final day of this term for children will be Thursday October 15th because Friday is the day for Parent/Teacher meetings. Everyone should have signed up for an appointment by now.

My thought for the week comes from a pumpkin:

After the cold, wet day today, I hope we have some good weather for our walk on Sunday. Enjoy the weekend and happy pumpkin hunting!
