Summer Productions and Potato harvest

This has been a very mixed week in school and I need to express my sincere thanks to you all for being so cooperative in our endeavour to keep our community safe in this exceptional heatwave. Although it has been very hot we seem to have achieved a great deal this week.

Last Saturday’s summer Festival was very successful, there was a great turnout, the weather was perfect and everyone enjoyed themselves. The bubble machine worked overtime, and the tattoos and face painting were as popular as ever. I hope you all enjoyed the traditional English scones with jam and cream! Thank you to everyone who helped make it t such a wonderful afternoon.

Despite the heat our children produced two amazing theatrical performances. Firstly, the Junior department children went to a local theatre and put on a very polished show, telling the story of Hansel and Gretel. I was extremely impressed with their teamwork and how they all worked together to act, sing and dance and the result was a very impressive show. Thank you to all the staff who helped put the show together as it is no mean feat to make sure the stage is set and ready for our young thespians!

On Thursday morning in the Acorn playground we were treated to another feast for the eyes when we got to watch the Year 1 and 2 children perform their show, which had a cooling ‘under the sea’ theme. They had to battle with the heat even though we had brought the time earlier in the day. They also sang and danced and looked wonderful in their costumes, which resulted in an amazing show. Well done to everyone and especially the staff who pulled out all the stops by turning up at 7am make the most of the morning coolness to get everything ready for the show.

Our Infant French teacher Mme Kowalska worked with the children to produce fabulous props for both shows, a gingerbread house and a huge shipwreck! Our music teacher coordinates the music for all the shows and we are still looking forward to the Early Years performance next week!

The Year 1 and 2 children had their final session at the NATO swimming pool this week and those who were present were all very happy to receive their certificates and medals. Most of them are now able to swim independently, which is a brilliant achievement.

It was potato harvesting time in the Junior Department and the grand total was 150 potatoes! Each class had planted potatoes in a container and looked after them, diligently watering them and checking them. Next week they are going to use their potatoes to create culinary delights! I await to see what they come up with!

This week we were delighted to be visited by two ex BISB students, Idil and Alexander. They left BISB around 17 years ago and still have very vivid memories of their time here. It was lovely to see the delight in their faces as they remembered the school and met some of the teachers who they remembered. It is always a pleasure to have ex students return to tell us what they are doing and to see what charming adults they have grown into. Children who attended BISB are living all around the world and contributing to societies in many positive ways. This makes us all very proud.

On Monday June 29th the Year 1 and 2 classes are planning to walk Georges Henri Park for a picnic. Mums and Dads are welcome to come along and join them. The children will be walking from school, and Miss Bird would like some parents to accompany them walking if possible rather than meeting at the park. You are welcome to bring along picnic food to share. They are planning to leave school at 11.30 am. If there are not enough volunteer walkers then the children will stay in school and have a picnic there without parents. I will post this message on the Year 1 and 2 Classlist group and you can reply on there if you are able to help.

My thought for the week comes at the end of a successful show week !
