Welcome back to school and I hope everyone is well rested and ready for the challenges of the summer term. It looks as though the summer weather is arriving next week.

It has been a busy week as always in school with the children excited to be back with their friends. We have also welcomed some new families to our BISB community, which is always a pleasure.

In 2007, EUDACTICA created The SUPERTMATIK Mental Math International Competition, a contest based on the SUPERTMATIK Mental Math game. The contest has now become a worldwide key event in the teaching of mathematics. Our Junior children took part in this competition and Rachit in Year 4 achieved a place in the top 10 out of 50,004 children from around the world. A very big congratulations to everyone who took part as they all achieved excellent results and should be very proud of themselves.

Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful outing to the Sortilege Adventure centre on Tuesday where they had challenges, puzzles and tests to accomplish as a team to become members of The Secret Society of The Golden Bean. The staff at the centre were impressed with their teamwork and attitude to the challenges and also by the children's good behaviour. Well done to them all and to Mrs Bounds and Madame Halvorsen who accompanied them.

There will be no swimming for Year 1 and 2 next Wednesday May 27th as the NATO pool is not available on that day.

Monday 25th May is a public holiday in Belgium and so the school will be closed on that day. After school clubs will therefore start on Tuesday next week. The link for the sign up sheets for clubs has been sent out. Please take a look and sign up to a club before next week so that we can see if there are enough children attending to make each club viable.

We have celebrated many birthdays during this school year and I am very pleased that everyone has been sending Oreo biscuits or Speculoos. All the children enjoy these, so everyone has been able to take part in the celebrations. Please make sure when you buy your Oreos that they are plain and not covered in chocolate as we try to discourage chocolate during school time.

Next Friday, May 29th BISB will be sending two football teams to take part in an inter schools football tournament with other International schools around Brussels. The children have been training, and we would like to thank Dev’s Dad for giving up his time to coach them. They have had great fun and we hope they enjoy the tournament.

Thank you to everyone who joined the coffee morning today and especially thank you to Alicia’s mum Kate for bringing along some tasty Moroccan treats for everyone to share. We got some good tips as to where to go on holiday around Europe. A very pleasant way to start a Friday morning!

Next week is going to be hot so please make sure your children have their water bottles and a hat. You can apply sun cream before they come to school and if it is very hot they can wear shorts with their school polo shirt.

And finally, my thought for the week, as we look forward to a long, sunny weekend.
