As we come to the end of our first full week it has been a joy to see the children settle back into school and hear the sounds of happy children throughout both school buildings.

I would like to thank everyone who managed to come along to the Curriculum Evening yesterday. We like to work together with you to ensure that your children get the best possible education, so we are always grateful for your support.

A reminder that teachers do not check their emails during the school day as they are busy with the children, so if you have an urgent message to pass on, please either email or ring the school office on 02 736 8981If you would like to contact your child’s teacher, please use the email address below. These emails are replacing the individual staff emails to simplify communication and will be used going forward. These will be checked by the relevant class teachers on a regular basis but please do not expect an immediate reply.

It was lovely to meet with many parents again for our regular Friday coffee morning at 09.00. We had a good discussion about the Pros and Cons of AI and the impact it is having on our daily lives! I am not sure if I want a humanoid robot cleaner in my home!Don’t forget that there is a family Welcome Back Coffee morning tomorrow, Saturday September 5th in the Infant building from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along, even for a short time. The Junior department enjoyed their first Skills Friday of the term with a walk and activities at Georges Henri Park. These Fridays are an excellent way to enrich our Curriculum and the children can enjoy physical activities in a large area.

I need to remind everyone that if your child would like to celebrate their birthday in school we do not allow rich creamy birthday cakes. This is because we have some children with allergies and specific dietary restrictions and also because generally our experience of such cakes is that the children don’t eat them and a lot is wasted. You may send in a couple of packs of plain Oreo cookies or Speculoos biscuits for the children to share. The children will then have two biscuits each and all the children can eat these so everyone is therefore included in the celebration. Please do not send in bags of chocolates or sweets or party bags to give out because we will have to return these to you.

We are updating our contact details and ask that if you have moved to a new address in the last two years and forgotten to tell us then please send your new address to the school office. We have to submit to both the Dutch and French Ministry of Education a list of all the children who attend BISB so it is important that our information is up to date.

Please respond promptly to a request to complete the Pupil Information Form and Parental Permission Form if you receive one.

Some parents may not be aware that if you refer another family to BISB in the future, and they subsequently take up a school place, then we pay a 500 € referral fee to the person making the referral.

There are still a few children wearing incorrect clothing to school. You can purchase uniform items from the school office. To do so please send an email (schooloffice@bisb.org) requesting what you need and we will prepare it. All children above Nursery age should be wearing grey trousers, skirt or pinafore with a white school polo shirt and a green school sweatshirt. On PE and swimming days the children come to school in green school jogging pants with school t-shirt and school sweatshirt. Nursery children wear green school jogging pants with a white school polo shirt and green school jumper. All children must have a BISB school bag. For the grey skirts, pinafores or trousers we have a few in stock but otherwise recommend marksandspencer.com They have a Belgian site and they deliver to Belgium.

Some of our older students are allowed by their parents to walk to school and home alone. We will only permit this if we receive an email from you giving your permission. These children are allowed to bring a simple gsm to school which will remain on the staffroom table during school time and they collect it for the walk home.
